WHETHER YOU ARE WORKING FROM HOME (like I) or just bpaying & blogging
your life away (again, like I) then you need somewhere to put all your matchy, matchy linen magazine holders and pencil bouquets. Sadly, none of the above are rooms in my house
( s i g h ) although often some of my personal items do make it into the shots (flip flops by the pool, reading glasses on the bedside table) I don't actually live there...even though that is MY leather jacket resting comfortably on the black chair above.

...you want to know where I bought the leather jacket?

Well if you MUST know it's from one of my favourite cities in the world, next to Sydney
and the city of Shoalhaven and I'm sure Paul Hewson (who?) has one just like it !!

Cushion Storage Challenge WINNER

Rack and stack
Congratulations to Leah Viney of Little Bohemian for a beautiful image and a
simple solution to stacking those pillows and cushions after lights out.

A big thank you to all who entered the Store, Stack or floor them challenge,
love your ideas and images. Also a very big thank you to The Bedspread Shop,
in Malvern for donating the deluxe Danish goosedown pillows and to Fiona Peel,
former winner of the Cushion Cluster Competition who had these very clever ideas:

The Cushion shelf
Behind the "window furnishing" or, in
laymans terms the bedroom curtain
Fiona has attached a hinged shelf.
During the day it's folded
up neatly along the wall, hiding behind
the curtain. Then at night it's folded
down and the extra pillows off the bed
are placed on the shelf....
voila, no more floordrobe!

The Pillow Rack
Finally the pants hanger moonlights as
a pillow rack and, yes we think it
definitely has some "Martha" appeal!

If you would like to see the mechanics of the
cushion shelf concept have a look at the
'Secret Shelf" video, below- I discovered
this American classic sometime ago.

Spoiler alert...art collectors be warned

Storing pillows & cushions

Store, Stack or floor them?
Cute n' clever ways to
say goodnight to bed pillows...nighty night featherbags

Imagine waking up to a pillow free floor where you dont have to search the far flung
corners of the room or dodge pillows that have passed out bedside and morphed into
a pet bed, at...oh I don't know ...was it around midnight, Maxie?

Whilst at The Works, aka Bed Bath N' Table I noticed their VM displays had
some really lovely ideas for storing pillows, when they are not reclining as
excessively cosy, colourful bed toppings

The ottoman at the bedbase is always good for a sweet stack of pillows, and
fortunately far too small for my dog to negotiate as is the suitcase of cushions
resting on, what else but a suitcase holder.

Put on your thinking cap and pj's to win...
2 Danish Deluxe Goosedown pillows, valued at $300..nighty, night posh feather bags

Goosedown Deluxe Giveaway

Pillow talk
Do you store, stack or floor them at night?

Ahem....Good Housekeeping is of the opinion that your bed pillows
"shouldn't take up more than half of the bed". My husband is of the
opinion that they shouldn't take up half the floor either.

A friend of mine says her hubby dodges both the cushions and her
"floordrobe" and once counted 36 random cushions in the house
not including pillows...welcome to the cushionista club!

Here is one solution re feather bags on the floor:
The Wicker Basket

If you have any solutions or funny husband stories please enter
the Goosedown Deluxe Giveaway for a chance to win sumptuous
His & Hers Pillows valued at $300 from The Bedspread Shop.

Goosedown Deluxe Giveaway

where do you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed.....with 47 extra pillows
There was a philosopher who spoke of the cat that mews to be let out and
then mews to be let in again. In the interim, does it exist?

When the lights are off in the bedroom do excessive pillows, cushions or bolsters,
on a bed cease to exist? Where do they go to when the covers are pulled back?
Mine generally pass out on the floor, the proximity to the bed being in direct
proportion to the time + tiredness of the retiree. Making your way to the bathroom
in the morning is like negotiating a feathery minefield. Could there possibly be
a solution to this bedroom dilemma?

I NEED ANSWERS + GOOD IDEAS FOR PILLOW STORAGE!
Stack, store or floor them?
Do you have a natty idea for storing your discarded bed pillows at night?
Is it a special storage receptacle, pillow hanger or cushion cupboard?
Where do they go to when not resting comfortably curled up on your bed?

Goosedown Deluxe Giveaway

Best dressed beds
Which personality type are you?

Having spent my youth in an all girl Catholic boarding school I can't possibly leave
the house without making the bed or eat fishcakes on friday. I'm also not into
full fat pillows, they’re a pain in the C7 so next time we go holidaying up the coast
the skinny flatty is coming too.

Unfortunately my sad, skinny runway model of a pillow looks like it has passed out on

the bed after its made so, for the sake of aestheics I have a stash of fuller figured feather bags ...nothing says deluxe comfort like a plus sized pillow!

Arranging pillows on a bed is not only a skill it's another category on the Myers Briggs test. Do you layer symmetrically + vertically, stacking until the final mini bling cushion (entj) or opt for the asymmetrical look, one side vertical the other horizontal (esnp) or do you just throw them on the bed overarm like my husband (meh)

And what of bedlinen- are you a smooth or crunchy? Crisp sheets and tucked in
blankets or feathery doonas? Personally I'm a doona fan, the chameleon of bedland
plus I like shaking them in that big, slow way to get all the little recalcitrant feathers
back up the other end!

Next to mint slices, there is something delicious about a freshly made bed and in a perfect world there would be a 'just made bed' force field repelling bouncing children, jumping dogs and husbands putting on socks.

Are you a self made bed fan?

1. Can you walk out the door without attempting to make the bed?
2. Does trampolining on a freshly made bed fill you with pure joy?
3. Are there less than 2 pillows on your bed once made?
4. Is a 'hospital corner' a place for naughty sick people?
5. Bedruffle, Bedlam and Bedazzle are all types of fitted sheets?

If you answered NO to any of the above stay posted for the next styling challenge
and the Pillow Places Giveaway!

CUSHION CLUSTER WINNER!

Cushion Safari....awww!
Congrats to Fiona Peel for her very cute, creative cluster of cushions...those BTc. cushions will be winging their way to you very soon.... but not before a bit of Q&A.

What do you do.. now, or in a former life before children?
In my sleep deprived state I don't recall a life before kids!
Now when I have a few minutes I:
Bake (recipes with chocolate)

Read (flick the ipad for design sites and the news)
Photograph cushions.

You are obviously a cushion fiend, care to elaborate?
I love them because they bring a sofa or bed to life adding pattern, drama and colour.
Oh, and they make you more comfy too!

Decorating tips to share?
Spine bookcases are great for stacking discarded cushions from the bed at night....funnily enough Edward Cullen prefers books in his spine bookcase.
Also good storage is a must for hiding extra 'stuff' when people come over.

Thank you to everyone who entered..I have sent a lot of the images through to
House & Garden - the Ed. team were very impressed!

Stay posted for more challenges, prizes + great decorating tips!

Have a fab festive season

Addicted to cushions

A is for Addicted to cushions ccc entry

WHY ARE WOMEN ADDICTED TO CUSHIONS?

It hit fever pitch for me when I was pregnant with my daughter. Lost in Lincraft for hours in search of baby gingham, toile, ric rac and bouncy, cloudlike wadding. The blood sugar levels would plummet and I knew if I didnt escape the Textile Zone, and find a friand I would collapse!
The house became so excessively comfortable in that final term that the Irishman would come home and ask how many cushions, quilts, throws I had made today?
I still make cushions, still addicted and still lose all sense of time and place in homewares stores.
Is it the innate nesting instinct of women or is it just part of their DNA to soften hard surfaces...floors, leather sofas, men?

Thank you Mandy for your entry
